“The modern movement for LGBTQ equality was catalyzed by an uprising against police brutality, and for decades, Lambda Legal has understood that resisting state-sanctioned violence and discrimination, including by law enforcement ... Unfortunately, we have no reason to believe that Attorney General Barr or the Commission he has created will take seriously their duty to protect the civil rights of all people." Lambda Legal stated when they submitted written testimony highlighting the disproportionate levels of violence and abuse that LGBTQ people, especially LGBTQ people of color, experience in the U.S. criminal legal system.
Our guest today is Puneet Cheema, Staff Attorney at Lambda Legal.  Her work involves impact litigation, policy, and advocacy to prevent and address discrimination against LGBTQ people.

With in-person Pride Festivals folding around the world this season, one hot soulful funk band is still bringing the anthem of love and power to the scene!  Iggy T and the Crazymakers are launching their eagerly anticipated full LP this summer -- and with it, the brand new Bi anthem "Cake"!
Today we have lead singer Sarah Todd and producer David Franz as our guests.
Often compared to artists such as St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Amy Winehouse, and the Alabama Shakes, Iggy T and the Crazymakers are influenced by the likes of The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Adele, Al Green, Etta James, and Stevie Wonder. They blend traditional soul elements with a modern, beat-driven groove.
As for the Bi anthem "Cake": “While around the country, we are seeing Gay Prides being canceled left and right, the band still has hopes that digital prides and other LGBTQ+ organizations will find our song Cake an uplifting and empowering bisexual anthem, since the B is generally left out of the conversation either due to erasure or misunderstanding of what it means to be bisexual,” lead singer Sarah Todd tells us.
Iggy T and the Crazymakers are offering their song (and all consequential remixes) free of license charge to any digital pride in need. The band will also be working with LGBTQ+ artists on “socially distanced music videos” to be released throughout Pride month. The band will also be holding a remix contest for their song Cake and the winner will be announced June 30.
Today they tell us all about it, and the road that got them here.
